  • This really spoke to me today... hope it encourages you, too.

    Acknowledge Him

Here is a word for you from the Word.
    Proverbs 3:6

In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. KJV
Do you want the assurance that God is in control of your way, your life? That He is directing and guiding your decisions and ready to solve your problems?
Those words are the key to that assurance. “In all thy ways acknowledge Him,” that is, the Lord. At every pause, at every turning point, at every moment when you can, relax and just breathe for a moment, and you are not pressed for some particular decision.
Acknowledge Him. The best way to acknowledge Him is simply to thank Him. Thank Him that He is in charge. Thank Him for His faithfulness. Thank Him for all the help that you have received from Him in the past. Thank Him for His wisdom. Thank Him for His power. As you thank Him, you are acknowledging Him. You are continuing to have Him in control of your life and your situation. And in that way you continue to have His guidance and direction.
Acknowledge Him every moment just with a brief prayer, a brief “Thank You, Lord. Thank You that You are in charge of this situation. Thank You that You have the answer to this problem. In every step, Lord, I acknowledge You. Every question I bring to You. Every decision I submit to You. Thank You, Lord, that You’re in charge. Thank You that You are willing to accept responsibility.”
When you acknowledge Him like that at every step, you can be sure that He really will direct your paths. - Derek Prince

Russia says to send nuclear warship to Caribbean

MOSCOW (Reuters) - Russia said on Monday it would send a heavily-armed nuclear-powered cruiser to the Caribbean for a joint naval exercise with Venezuela, its first major maneuvers on the United States' doorstep since the Cold War.

Russian officials denied the mission was in any way linked to a naval standoff with U.S warships in the Black Sea, but it will take place at a time of high tension between Moscow and Washington over the conflict in Georgia.

Russia has criticized the United States for sending a command ship and two other naval vessels to Georgia, on its southern border, to deliver aid and show support for President Mikheil Saakashvili after Moscow sent troops into Georgia.

Kremlin leader Dmitry Medvedev asked on Saturday how Washington would feel "if we now dispatched humanitarian assistance to the Caribbean...using our navy".

Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Andrei Nesterenko said on Monday that the naval mission to Venezuela would include the nuclear-powered battle cruiser "Peter the Great", one of the world's largest combat warships.

Moscow's most modern destroyer, the "Admiral Chabanenko", will also steam to the Caribbean, along with other ships, including a fuel tanker, he added.

The naval exercise, to take place in November, will be backed up by an anti-submarine aircraft, based at a Venezuelan airfield, he said.

Russia denied that the move amounted to retaliation against the United States over its action in Georgia.

"We are talking about a planned event not linked with current political circumstances and not in any way connected to events in Georgia," he told a news briefing. The exercises "will in no way be directed against the interests of a third country".

The ships will participate in "joint maneuvers, practice search and rescue and communications drills," Russian Navy spokesman Igor Dygalo said in a statement. He added the exercise had been planned for a year.

    HIGH VISIBILITY

The 'Peter the Great' is large and heavily armed with both surface-to-surface and around 500 surface-to-air missiles, said Jon Rosamund, the editor of Jane's Navy International, a specialist publication.

"On paper it's an immensely powerful ship," he said. "We are not really sure if this is a show of force or if it poses a viable operational capability at this stage," Rosamund said.

"These ships have far more capability, on paper, than the U.S. destroyers that went to the Black Sea, but it's difficult to compare capacity," Rosamund said. "The Russian navy is keen to be seen on the world stage."

Admiral Eduard Baltin, former commander of Russia's Black Sea Fleet, said the Caribbean maneuvers meant "Russia is returning to the stage in its power and international relations which it, regrettably, lost at the end of last century".

"No one loves the weak," Baltin was quoted as saying by Russia's Interfax news agency.

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, an outspoken critic of the United States, said during a visit to Moscow in July that Russian warships or warplanes were welcome to visit.

Chavez is a major arms client of Moscow, saying he needs Russian weaponry to dissuade "the North American empire" from invading his country.

  • I am going to post these weekly devos from Derek Prince, who is like Obi Won Kenobi if he had attended Cambridge and didn't have a lightsaber.  It is kinda weird getting email from a dead guy, but nonetheless, it is refreshing to read the truth of scripture so clearly laid out.  I have accepted a challenge of a pastor from the church I was attending previously, which was to read proverbs daily.  This works out well because of the 31 chapters.  It is like the Wheaties challenge, or something like that.  And while you are at it you'll learn all about conies, sluggards on a hinge, putting a knife to your throat at a dinner party and so on.

    Death Brings Life
Here is a word for you from the Word.
    John 12:24
Jesus replied, “I tell you the truth, unless a grain of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds. The man who loves his life will lose it, while the man who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life.” NIV
What a vivid picture that is. Do you see it? You are holding the grain of wheat there in your hand. It’s got a hard little shell around it, it’s all by itself, it’s right there in your hand. It’s yours, it’s your life, you control it, you make the decisions. You can decide what you want to do to it. You can hold onto it and keep it. But if you keep it, Jesus says, it will remain alone. Nothing more will ever come out of it.
How many lonely people there are all around us in the world today? They are lonely just for that very reason. They are holding onto that little grain. They are not willing to let it go. And so they have it. It’s all theirs but it’s, oh, so lonely. What’s the alternative? Let it go, drop it. Hand it over to God. Let God take control of it. Be willing to drop into the ground, lose sight of it, and be buried even there in the dark. Maybe people will walk over it, but God’s promise is that a new life will come out of it: a life that’s worth living, a life that’s not just for time, but for eternity. - Derek Prince

  • fathers

I have been in the church all my life and a committed follower of Christ most of my adult life (mostly committed most of the time).  And I realize that the dynamic of fathers is important in the church as well as the family.  What I mean is a dad is a guy you look up to, you don't want to let him down, and you can look to him as an example.  I had the chance to get lunch with my pastor this week, I guy who I enjoy spending time with as well as admire quite a bit.  I don't want to let him down, I cannot accept what he says and then not want to go walk it out.  Otherwise, I don't see how church is relevant unless you are actively seeking to "follow me as I follow Christ".  I know alot of my friends that go to church have different beliefs, but we all need examples.

I wonder how if we view our dad effects the way we look at our pastor, or how we look at God?  I had a good relationship with my dad for which I am grateful.  And I never wanted to let him down.  I am kinda babbling but it is my prayer that my family and friends would continue to grow in grace and in the knowledge of God.  I screw up all the time but I know God loves me, is for me and passionately loves me!  And I want to give that love away so help me Jesus.  When we get squeezed dry, and feel sinful or drained or whatever, God desires to fill us up.  We can come boldly by faith.  the righteous keep getting up and getting before His face.

I get an email devotional from Derek Prince, another church father.  if you want to get it sign up at derekprince.org.

    Turn Away from Folly
Here is a word for you from the Word.
    Proverbs 9:13-18
The woman Folly is loud; she is undisciplined and without knowledge. She sits at the door of her house, on a seat at the highest point of the city, calling out to those who pass by, who go straight on their way. “Let all who are simple come in here!” she says to those who lack judgment. “Stolen water is sweet; food eaten in secret is delicious!” But little do they know that the dead are there, that her guests are in the depths of the grave [or of Sheol, the nether world]. NIV
That picture of Folly says one thing to me. It says that Folly offers us something below the real price. People are going on their way, they are pursuing their legitimate ends, and Folly impinges upon them with a suggestion that somehow if they turn aside and buy from her and receive what she has to offer, they will be getting a special bargain.
I have come to the conclusion that in the spiritual life there really aren’t any bargains. God doesn’t bargain with us. He doesn’t offer bargains. He doesn’t reduce His prices. And if you ever find somebody who is offering something spiritual at a reduced price, beware; it is not a genuine offer. It comes from Folly and from deception.
There is a price for spiritual blessings. There’s a price for spiritual riches. The price is twofold: commitment and discipline. Folly is undisciplined. She will try to persuade you that you can get it without discipline; that you don’t have to make a real life commitment. Don’t listen to her, she’s deceiving you, she’s turning you aside from the right way. - Derek Prince

    Two Aspects of God’s Nature
Here is a word for you from the Word.
    Psalm 113:5-9
Who is like the LORD, our God, the One who sits enthroned on high, who stoops down to look on the heavens and the earth? He raises the poor from the dust and lifts the needy from the ash heap; he seats them with princes, with the princes of their people. He settles the barren woman in her home as a happy mother of children. NIV
There are two aspects of God’s nature that seem so different and yet are so beautifully combined in Him. The first one is His lofty grandeur. He sits enthroned on high, far above the earth. The other is His tender compassion and concern for the poor and the needy. The same One who sits enthroned on high raises the poor from the dust; He lifts the needy from the ash heap; He seats them with princes and He cares, too, for barren women. He settles her in a home as a happy mother of children.
So often we think of God as a stern and awesome person. It is true; He is. But there is another side to His character. He is so tender and compassionate, so condescending. He stoops down to the lowest and He loves to exalt them to a position beside Himself.
So, do not be discouraged if you seem poor or insignificant or if there is a deep need in your life. Remember God’s tender mercy and compassion. - Derek Prince
